Casa Hechale is a cultural centre for theatre, film and performance in the neighbourhood of Santa María la Ribera, Mexico City.

Set in a historic house over 110 years old, the centre is dedicated to artistic research, professional development and the creation and presentation of new work.

The centre brings together a black box theatre, rehearsal and work spaces, the Front Gallery and Salon Cha, a space for reading and conversation. These facilities support independent and collaborative practice, from writing and research to rehearsals, exhibitions and public presentations.

The Actor’s Lab, Playwright’s Lab, workshops and international artist residencies support artists at different stages of their practice. Performances, readings, exhibitions and talks provide opportunities for audiences to engage with artistic work and the processes behind its development. Public participation and connections with the surrounding neighbourhood are integral to the cultural life of the house.

Casa Hechale supports cross-border artistic exchange between Mexico and the United States, alongside collaboration with artists and cultural organisations internationally. Through shared projects, residencies and public activities, the centre develops relationships between local and visiting practitioners and contributes to the cultural life of Mexico City.
